The player commanding the red checkers makes the first move. All pieces, including the King, move like a rook in chess—horizontally or vertically any number of squares—but cannot jump over any piece, friendly or enemy, and diagonal movement is forbidden.

Capturing is neutralized through a clever "pincer" maneuver.
